Creating a project¶
Assuming you have created your CSC account and have access to MyCSC, you can create a project by following the steps below:
Login to MyCSC with your CSC user account or Haka/Virtu account.
The steps are similar to those on the Creating a new project > Student page.

Fig: Choose HAKA as the login method.

Fig: Choose your university from the list. You will be redirected to your university's login page.
New Project¶
Navigate to Projects in the left menu and click + New project.

Fig: Click the + New Project button. (The menu is hidden in this image due to screen size).
Project Details¶
Fill in the details

Fig: Fill in the project details. Ensure you also fill in the 'Secondary field of science', unlike in the image.
Select Service¶

Fig: Choose the Puhti service.
Note: Puhti is currently approaching its End of Life. If you are reading this after Q2/2026, choose Roihu instead.
You will typically receive:
- 60,000 CPU billing units
- 10,000 GPU billing units
- 30,000 Storage billing units
Do I have to pay?
No. These are virtual accounting units used to ensure fair usage of the shared resources. No actual costs are generated for you personally, and you will not receive an invoice. However, once your project runs out of billing units, you will not be able to run more jobs until you apply for more.
Create Project¶
Read the terms and conditions, confirm your acceptance, and click Create project.
Once accepted, the Project is created.
Where to find my Project Number?
After creation, your project will have a number like project_2001234. You can always find this number by logging into MyCSC. You will need this number frequently (e.g., for sbatch --account=project_...), so keep it handy!
